AI Room Design Tools Compared: What to Check Before You Pay

Interior AI, Decoratly, REimagineHome, Planner 5D, RoomGPT and AI Room Design compared on what matters: free trial, real price, subscription or not, and how well they keep your room.

AI Room Design Tools Compared: What to Check Before You Pay

There are now dozens of AI room design tools, and their pricing pages are hard to compare: some sell monthly subscriptions, some sell credits, and "design", "render" and "credit" rarely mean the same thing from one tool to the next.

This comparison covers the tools we looked at most closely, using the prices on each company's public pricing page. We make AI Room Design, so we have included it too, and we have tried to be fair about where other tools are the better choice.

Six things that separate a useful tool from a toy

  1. Does it keep your room? Windows, doors, walls and camera angle should stay put. A beautiful image of a different room is no use when you are planning your own.
  2. Is there a real free trial? Look for a trial on your own photo, not just a gallery of examples.
  3. Subscription or one-time? Most people redesign a room a few times a year. A subscription you forget to cancel costs more than the designs you actually use.
  4. What does one credit buy? Check whether a regenerated or edited image costs another credit, and whether failed generations are refunded.
  5. Do credits expire? A 30-day pass is great value if you finish in 30 days, and wasted if you do not.
  6. Privacy. Are your photos private by default, and can you delete them yourself?

Tool by tool

Interior AI

One of the best-known tools, with photo redesign, sketch-to-render and staging. Plans are monthly: Pro is $49/month for 1,000 designs, Premium $99/month and Ultra $199/month, with editing and virtual staging on the higher plans. It is built for heavy, daily use; for a single room it is a lot of capacity to pay for.

Decoratly

Decoratly sells a one-time pass: $14.99 for 200 designs over 30 days, with no renewal, plus a free try in selected countries. It is excellent value if you will finish your project within the month. Credits do not carry over after the 30 days.

REimagineHome

Focused on real estate, with virtual staging, conversational edits and product visualisation. New users get 5 free designs. Monthly plans are listed from about $19/month for 30 credits, rising with volume; its pricing page has shown different figures over time, so check the current price before you subscribe.

Planner 5D

A full home planning tool with 2D/3D floor plans, a furniture catalogue and rendering, with AI features as one part of it. In the US, Premium is listed at $19.99/month and Professional at $49.99/month. Choose it if you need an actual floor plan, not just a new look for a photo.

RoomGPT

A simple, popular entry point: upload one photo and pick a style. At the time of writing we could not confirm its current price list from its public pages, so we have not quoted one.

AI Room Design

Our tool. It focuses on one job, restyling or staging your own room while keeping its structure, and on making the cost predictable:

  • 2 free designs for new accounts, plus free sample rooms without an account.
  • One-time packs: $9.99 for 60 designs (about 17¢ each) or $19.99 for 200 (10¢ each). No subscription, and purchased credits never expire.
  • Failed designs are refunded automatically.
  • Photos are private, and you can delete any photo or design yourself.

Where others are a better fit: if you need floor plans or 3D, use Planner 5D. If you generate thousands of images a month for clients, a high-volume subscription like Interior AI's will cost less per image. And if you are finishing a project this month and want the most designs for the money, Decoratly's 30-day pass is hard to beat.

The only test that counts

Whatever tool you choose, run the same photo of your own room through two or three of them. Check the windows and doors, the scale of the furniture and the light. The one that keeps your room recognisable while changing what you asked for is the right one.
